Dan had just bought himself an old Toyata 4WD truck, so Matt decided to take him out on the trails for his initiation to off-roading. It had been a while since I'd had my Jeep on the trails, so I decided to join them.

We left Ridgecrest sunday morning and headed for the El Paso Mountains, just South-West of here. We first headed over to check out the Burro Schmidt Tunnel. After that, we made our way down Last Chance Canyon and ended up on Garlock Road. After a quick drive down the pavement, we turned back onto the dirt and headed toward the El Pasos again. We made our way up Goler Gulch, and back home.

On our way to the Burro Schmidt Tunnel. My Jeep, Dan's "new" Toyota, and Matt's Blazer.

Looking back toward the Sierras and the clouds rolling over the crest. The wind had picked up pretty good already at this point. Looks like it was a bad day to take the top off the Jeep...

Dan and his new toy.

Burro Schmidt dug this tunnel through the mountains so miners could easily get from one side to the other. It took him so long, that a road was built long before he ever finished the tunnel.

The entrance to the tunnel.

Matt managed to lose a shoe half way through the tunnel...

About to head down Last Chance Canyon.

Me in my Jeep coming over the ridge.

Dan making his way down one of the steeper sections of trail.

Matt decided to show Dan what not to do.

We had to get the High-Lift out to get the rock out of there. That's it behind the tire.

After getting the rock out, Matt made it up and over the step.

Dan making his way over the rocks and through the wash.

Dan spinning his tires climbing up a steep loose hill. He made it up despite all that tire spinning...

Matt is such a nice guy, he decided to give Dan another lesson in what not to do.

Time to get the High-Lift out again...

Probably not the best place to stop. Although, I suppose 3 tires on the ground is better than 4 tires in the air...

There he goes again with only 3 tires on the ground.

Here's my best imitation of Matt, with one tire in the air. My short wheel base and rear locker helped me on this part, but I guess I still didn't have quite the articulation to get over with all my tires on the ground.

I was able to get a better angle going down, so I think I managed to keep my tires on the ground on this part. Maybe...
